Club Update: E-newsletter

Summer fun...
It might be a bit damp across the country but wherever you are I hope you’re all having chance to unwind and enjoy a well-earned rest after the hectic finish to the year.

It was great to see so many people at Club Conference in June, so thank you to everyone that attended the session.  I hope it was useful and that you were able to work with your committees to set some goals for yourselves over the summer so that you enter the new year ready to make an impact. A link to a short survey is below and I would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to fill it in so we can keep improving the training.

We are here all summer so if there are things on your mind please don’t hesitate to drop us an email or if you’re back in Birmingham please feel free to come in and say hello. Otherwise have a great summer and you’ll get the next Club Update in late August.

Sports Fair 2012
The booking form for sports fair can be found attached to this email.  Please ensure that you have sent back to the form by 5pm on Monday 16th July 2012 to guarantee you a stall at sports fair.

Top Tips
As you will all be aware, Sports Fair is the single most important event for you to ensure that your membership is as high as possible for the year so make sure you are thinking about it over the summer. Here are some tips to help:

  • Stand out: make your stall special! You are in competition with around 80 other stalls so what will make you stand out?
  • Information is key: new members will want to get involved as soon as possible so make sure something is planned and they know about key dates
  • Welcome sessions: Not everyone will want to take part in a training session straight away so consider a welcome talk a less serious training session to welcome new members

Jamaican Track and Field Open Session
The University of Birmingham are proudly hosting the Jamaican track and field team for their pre-Olympic camp this summer. As part of their stay here, the team has agreed to open up one session for lucky spectators to watch.

Due to the limited capacity of the viewing area around the Munrow Sports Centre track, the event has been invite only to the local community, including Athletic clubs and schools.

However, there are 100 tickets available for staff and students to watch this historic event. We are expecting a large amount of interest in these tickets so we are inviting staff and students to enter their details in the linked form below to be in with a chance of winning a ticket.

The deadline for entries is 13 July and the link can be found here.

Cricket Women

Club of the Month: Cricket Women
The month of June saw some fantastic end of season performances from archery, cycling and triathlon but it was the Trophy winning performance form the Women’s Cricket team that has earned them team of the month.

Following the early season success of reaching the BUCS Indoor Finals, held at Lords Cricket Ground, the women have had a frustrating league season due to the less than ideal weather conditions that have seen several matches rearranged, rearranged again and then called off.

This didn’t dampen their cup ambitions, however, and some outstanding performances saw them set up a final against Oxford. After a slow start the team had an outstanding last 15 overs coming away with the trophy win with a 9 wicket margin.
