Club Update: E-newsletter

Best of British...
Hopefully, this Club Update finds you well and that all your exams have gone as well as possible.  Maybe you even got a chance to enjoy the sunshine?

With exams coming to a close for another year we can now turn our attention to the fantastic summer of sport ahead, which all kicks off with Sports Ball on Monday 4th June and Sports Awards on June 12th.  I’d like to thank the Queen personally for warming up the nation for what is set to be two outstanding nights of entertainment at Edgbaston Cricket Ground and the University of Birmingham, respectively.

And of course we are but days away from another important sporting event: Club Conference on 11-12 June. Over the two days we will provide you with the basics of running your club and also how to develop it during your year in charge. This is the last reminder about the event so please make sure everyone who needs to know about it knows about it!

A final reminder that Club Conference 2012 is taking place on 11 and 12 June.  The full timetable and agenda can be found here: Club Conference Timetable.

Attendance
Please note that there are minimum attendances for each session, with some sessions having specific requirements for committee members to attend.  You are welcome to send more than the minimum requirement if you would like, especially for the second day where you will be working as a committee to set club objectives for the coming year.

If you are unable or find a replacement to attend then please contact me in plenty of time or we will count this as non-attendance and you will lose your kit sponsorship.

Want a head start?
If you want to get a head start on some of the material that we’ll be covering in Club Conference then take a look at the 2011-12 Committee Handbook. Over the course of the summer an updated handbook will be released online, with the hard copies being given out at the Sports Fair Briefing in September.

Sports Ball
As if you could forget, but... Sports Ball is fast approaching!

Tim Smith has sent out an email with all the details for the night.  If you have yet to receive this then please contact Tim via email ASAP.

I would just like to echo one of Tim’s points about respect for awards.  A lot of effort has been put in by Tim to ensure that the presentations are more visible than they have ever been so there should be no chance of tables not being able to know what is happening on stage.

With this in mind, please respect the awards and the nominees by keeping quiet during the announcements.

Club of the Month: Triathlon
The month of May gave the Triathlon the perfect platform to build on their success with both Sprint and Standard distance triathlons taking place.

Following an outstanding Modern Biathlon in March, Triathlon sent strong teams to their two Championships despite them falling within exam periods. At the Sprint (750m swim, 25km cycle, 5km run) the women came away with Team Silver.

The real success story came in the Standard distance race comprising a 1,500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run. The event took place in Nottingham with temperatures reaching a scorching 29C during the run. The club came away with individual silver for scholar Emily McLoughlin; team silver for the Men and team gold for the Women.

Over the course of the year the club have seen a huge 45% improvement in BUCS points thanks to results such as these.
