Club Update: E-newsletter

Make your mark...
March is one of the most dynamic months in the sporting calendar.  Not only do the leagues and cups reach their climax, with many of our teams and clubs at the BUCS Championships in Sheffield, but your club should be (if you haven’t already!) be gearing up for your AGM.  This can have a huge impact on the future of the club so getting the right people interested on the committee can make all the difference. Make sure that you’re advertising all positions and the date of you meeting as early as possible.

Alongside club events, the race in the VPS election is taking place amid a back drop of cardboard Aldi would be proud of.  This year we have three candidates, Guive ’Ask Geeves’ Shafie, James ’And The Giant Peach’ Hughes and Tom ’Top Gear’ Garry.  From Friday 2nd March at 10am until Friday 9th March at 4pm you will be able to vote for your preferred candidate using your my.bham account.  This year Tim Smith has made a big difference: he’s organised the ’Get Involved’ second-chance sports fair; implemented effective Club Captain and Mini-Forum meetings; and helped put on fundraising tournaments such as the Dodgeball charity event.  The person you vote in can have a massive impact on sport so make sure you have your say!

CIMPSA

CIMPSA
If you have been inspired by your work on a club committee and want to work in a sports industry then you need to know about CIMSPA!

Leisure, Sport and Physical Activity is now a chartered profession, and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) provides representation, training and support for the 1 million people employed within the sector. The Institute covers a wide variety of professions, including: sports development, sports administration, leisure management and lifeguarding as well as supporting students hoping to secure a career within the sector. Being a member of CIMSPA or having undertaken one of their courses will certainly set you apart from the rest of the field in the job market.

There is a particular interest in recruiting members aged 18-25. Amy Bird (Sport & Exercise Science graduate now working with the Birmingham Sports and Physical Activity Partnership) is the West Midlands Rising Talent Representative, ensuring the new body reflects the requirements of those entering the industry at the start of their career.

To help launch the new institute, you are invited to regional event at Walsall Football Club from 09:30-12:30 on March 20th.  For more details, to reserve your FREE place at the regional event, or to find out more about membership check out the CIMPSA website.

Lacrosse

Club of the Month: Lacrosse
This has been one of the closest months to call, with a number of clubs really pushing for this outstanding honour.  But Lacorsse have had an outstanding run this month.

The W1s reached the Championship final with a stunning 17-1 rout of Exeter in the semi-final, while they narrowly missed out on overhauling the Premier League leaders with a tough 7-7 draw against Durham. The match was fantastically attended with over 200 spectators, achieved entirely through self-promotion. Off the pitch the club have rallied to ensure that they meet all fundraising targets with a number of planned events to increase their revenue.

Special mentions must also go to two previous winners.  Netball claimed two league titles yesterday with the 1s winning Midlands 1A and the 2s clinching Midlands 2A. The 3s and 4s are both sitting second in their leagues showing great strength and depth.  Gymnastics and Trampolining also continue to show their development this year with two team bronzes in the Gymnastics Finals and a number of members qualifying for Trampolining Finals.
