These
are sometimes confused with diagnostic tests and indeed they often serve
both purposes. Strictly speaking, however, a placement test is designed
to identify which level in a multi-level programme a student should be allocated
to. Normally one would expect the test material to be related to the curriculum
or syllabus of the various levels. For example, the University of Birmingham's
Centre for Modern Languages has a Web-based multiple-choice placement test
for its Open Access programme which enables students to find which of eight
possible levels they should enrol on. |
