Club Update: E-newsletter

Happy Movember
If you can rely on any group to grow outstanding facial hair in aid of charity then you only need to look to sport.  From Merv Hughes to Bruce Grobbelaar and Mark Spitz moustaches has graced some of the finest sporting faces. To help promote Movember in the UK we will be looking to recognise our very own UBSport taches at the beginning of next month. So send in any photos of your top lip warmers and we'll publish them here next month.

One other bit of news to let you know is that our Marketing Officer, Kate Allum, will be leaving UBSport in a couple of weeks to work for a sports marketing agency.  Kate will be contacting clubs who she has been working with by the end of this week to discuss any remaining issues such as sponsorship.  We wish her all the best.

Lacrosse

Team and club photos
After a strong 2011-12 season, Lacrosse have laid the foundations for further improvement using their impressive development plan as a building block. Their Sports Fair recruitment was impressive, bringing in over 110 members to their competitive set-up and a further 34 into their mixed team. Having maintained a strong active membership throughout all training sessions, the club were easily able to fill their two new teams entered into BUCS this year and with 2 wins out of four in October, these teams have shown that they are in a great position to improve throughout the year.

Of particular note is the Women’s 3s team who are coached by second year Hi-Performance scholar, Hollie Harrington, who manages her commitments to the 1s, regularly playing and training for England and her studies alongside providing excellent coaching to the 3s.

Away from participation the pressure was on Hollie and the women 1s after being awarded a team scholarship from the Hi-Performance Centre. But the Women’s 1s have put down strong markers and yesterday came away from title contenders Durham with a battling draw. The Men’s 1s have followed their example and have begun their season strongly with two wins as they look for promotion to the Premier League.
