These books contain a reasonable balance of theoretical and practical
considerations. They provide a useful glossary, analysis and examples,
although they are perhaps too biased towards literary texts.

This book offers an overview of various issues related to the use of translation
in modern language degrees. There are theoretical discussions, as well

An excellent book for those wishing to gain an overview of the topic and
its position in language teaching. It addresses such issues as evaluation,
learning strategies and translation into L2.

This is one of the classic books in Translation Studies and provides a
very good introduction to the area. It covers both theoretical and practical
issues from a communicative perspective. Excellent glossary and samples
of texts with accompanying analysis.
Nord, C (1997) Translation
as a Purposeful Activity, St Jerome, Manchester
This book is a very useful summary of functionalist approaches to translation.
It combines both theoretical considerations and practical suggestions.

(1996) Teaching Translation in Universities. Present and Future Perspectives,
CILT, London
Interesting overview of the current position of translation in British
higher education institutions.
