As well as translating, students can be involved in the following activities:

• Comparing various translations of the same ST.
• Assessing an existing translation and providing an alternative translation.
• Translating the same ST but changing variables in the brief, so that the resulting TT varies accordingly, eg:
  user: recipe for a specialist chef or a child;
  time: 19^th century poem to be translated into contemporary language;
  place: advert for a Spanish hotel to be published in Spain or Britain;
  medium: advert to be published or advert to be mentioned to a friend.
